Racing Rules Explained

A Guide for Junior Novice Drivers

Kart Racing is a fast, exciting, and intense form of motorsport, predominately these days for 6-to-18-year-old competitors.

By necessity, the sport’s technical and sporting regulations are complex and as a senior official at international competitions it was patently evident that younger competitors [and their parents!] seldom read the regulations, and if they did, they encountered difficulty in interpreting and complying with them.

The solution? “Racing Rules Explained”, a 144-page book, written in an easy-to-read style and highly illustrated with explanatory diagrams and cartoons to suit the target age-group.

With over 4,000 copies published since 2013, this innovative publication has been widely acclaimed, translated and adopted by governing bodies, organisations, clubs, and circuits around the world.

Recent editions of the book have proudly included a Foreword by Formula 1 World Champion Sebastian Vettel and Mercedes F1’s new star George Russell. Whle former Red Bull F1 driver and current F1 TV commentator David Coulthard has kindly provided a great intorduction for the 2026 edition.

Bespoke editions have been specially produced for: Australia, Barbados, Lebanon, Malaysia, Netherlands, Oman, Scotland, Thailand, Trinidad & Tobago, UK, and the United Arab Emirates.

The Motorsport Enthusiasts Ultimate Heritage Tour of the Scottish Borders

October Publication

The Scottish Borders – the scenic gateway to Scotland, is world renowned for its farming, fishing, history, tourism, hospitality and…. of course, motorsports. In fact, the Borders can be said to be the birthplace of motoring and motorsports in Scotland, with the first ‘legal’ car journey setting off from Kelso in 1897, and the country’s first circuit races taking place on the WWII airfields at Winfield and Charterhall during the early 1950’s. Regrettably, these circuits have long since disappeared and there are no current motorsports facilities in the Borders [apart from the motocross track at Duns].

Nevertheless, for over 80 years the Borders has consistently produced a string of world class champions, on both two and four wheels. Locals Jim Clark, Jimmie Guthrie, Steve Hislop, Andrew Cowan, Stuart Easton, and Louise Aitken Walker are all champions who have brought worldwide acclaim to the Borders.

The region’s rich motorsports history has resulted in the creation of various motorsport ‘landmarks’ across the region. Each of these features allows motorsport enthusiasts to visit, pay homage, and reflect upon the unique contribution that each event, place, or person has made to motorsport or the worlds of motoring and motorcycling. Invariably, ever since the creation of motorised competition, motorsport and tragedy have been uneasy partners… and sadly many of these nostalgia evoking monuments are but poignant tributes to those great names who alas, are no longer with us.

Pre- Order Now

Although the best known of these memorials is of course the superb Jim Clark Museum in Duns, the Borders has several other lesser-known landmarks that enthusiasts should still find interesting, educational, and thought provoking. This publication has been produced to tie each of these individual physical or virtual ‘landmarks’ together with relevant backstories from Borders motoring, motorsport and motorcycle heritage to form a cohesive, interesting, and leisurely tour that enthusiasts can enjoy, either on the road or in their ‘mind’s eye’.

So, if you are a motorsport enthusiast or a car/motorcycle club or group seeking a theme for your next weekend run out, then this book is your ultimate roadmap for exploring the Borders rich motoring, motorcycling, and motorsport past. From a practical tour perspective, this book provides an introduction to each person event, venue or topic, while highlighting additional sources of information from relevant websites as well as other person/topic specific publications.
